Monken and Hazell Join Lauren’s First and Goal Honorary Board

SEPTEMBER 10 – Purdue University Head Football Coach Darrell Hazell and Army Head Football Coach Jeff Monken have joined the Honorary Board of Directors, Lauren's First and Goal Foundation announced today. Hazell and Monken visited the LFG Football Camps in Ohio and Pennsylvania, respectively, this year and spoke with campers.

"We are extremely excited to have Coach Hazell and Coach Monken us as honorary board members," said LFG founder John Loose. "Both head coaches are extremely well respected and were eager to join the foundation and help out any way they could."

Monken, who just learned about the foundation this summer, is coaching his first season at Army after spending the last four years as head coach at Georgia Southern. During his four seasons at Georgia Southern, Monken authored a 38-16 mark and spearheaded the program’s transition to the elite Football Bowl Subdivision level from the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) ranks.

Hazell, who coached with Loose previously, has volunteered and supported the camp for years. He is in his second season as head coach of the Boilermakers. Prior to his arrival at Purdue, he coached Kent State to a 16-10 record in two years at the helm. In 2012, the team captured the Mid-American Conference East Division Championship and played in their first bowl game in 40 years.

Monken and Hazell bring the total number of honorary board members to 12, with all of them being members of the football coaching community. These gentlemen will help to promote Lauren's First and Goal's mission of providing financial support for brain tumor research and cancer services, offering financial and emotional support to families living with pediatric cancer, and increasing awareness of the disease.

Since 2004, Lauren’s First and Goal has raised more than $1.7 million for pediatric brain tumor research and cancer services.
